Secondhand Gypsy Caravans
From time to time, we acquire an original gypsy wagon which,
time permitting, we restore to it's former glory, or sell
'as is' for someone to take on as a project.

and an honest description as to what may need doing.

Old Burton Showman's Caravan
Not only is this type of caravan something of a rarity, but
to discover it in sound condition is a rare find indeed.
We believe it dates back to the early part of the last century
and it's elegant proportions, strong yet decorative undercarriage
and intricate carvings all give clues to its Edwardian origins.
The previous owner, who has a carriage building background,
acquired it ten years ago in poor condition since when it
has been rebuilt and restored to something close to it's former
glory. With all the timber work done, it is now primed and
undercoated ready for a final topcoat.
The interior fittings include a fireplace area with a mirrored
mantlepiece over, seating with storage locker under, fixed
bed measuring 37" x 70" which can be completely
enclosed behind folding shutters, huge under-bed storage area,
chest of drawers, further seat with storage locker and a glazed
corner cabinet.
As well as the traditional half stable door with glazed windows
over, there are sliding sash windows to 3 sides with amber
glass lights and the raised mollicroft roof section has further
windows including opening casements with green and blue lights.
Outside, there are sliding louvred shutters to the side and
rear windows, and carved and chamfered ribs and frame sections
as well as applied turnings to the door posts. The whole sits
on a really nicely carved and chamfered chassis with substantial
spoked wooden wheels which have been completely rebuilt by
a respected company of wheelwrights.
This caravan stands proud, tall and elegant and having had
all the hard work done, presents an excellent opportunity
for the new owner to finish off in their preferred colour
scheme.
